Vowing to end mail-in voting and voting machines
Criticized means: Legal, or a policy choice, but widely condemned.
Trump pledged an executive order to end mail-in ballots and voting machines before the 2026 midterms, calling mail-in ballots corrupt.
What happened
States run elections, and it was unclear the president has any power to do this. Democrats vote by mail more often than Republicans, so critics saw a partisan aim. Trump himself has voted by mail.
Where it stands
The pledge led to the March 2026 executive order on mail ballots, which the courts, including the Supreme Court, blocked for the 2026 election.
The administration's side
Trump says mail-in ballots invite fraud. The White House backs the SAVE Act, which would require photo ID and prohibit no-excuse mail voting.
