Fired the prosecutor who convicted Ghislaine Maxwell

PendingLast checked Oct 5, 2026

Pending means: In court or under criminal investigation right now.

Maurene Comey, who prosecuted Epstein, Maxwell and Sean Combs, was fired with no explanation beyond a memo citing the president's Article II powers.

What happened

She is James Comey's daughter. Her firing came days after the Epstein reversal. Her lawsuit says she was fired solely or substantially because of who her father is.

Where it stands

In April 2026 Judge Jesse Furman let her lawsuit go forward in federal court, rejecting the Justice Department's bid to send it to an administrative board, and noted that the only reason given for the firing was the president's Article II power. In September she asked the court to rule the firing unlawful.

The administration's side

The administration cites the president's constitutional power to remove executive branch employees.
