The WatchlistWatch 4
This is a Watchlist entry. It is a developing story reported by credible outlets that hasn't reached a court ruling, official finding or documented harm yet. It says what to watch for. If that happens, it moves to The Record.
Third-term talk
Developing means: Reported by credible outlets, but no ruling, official finding or documented harm yet.
Trump keeps floating a third term, which the 22nd Amendment forbids, from saying there are methods to do it to promoting Trump 2028 merchandise.
What happened
He has worn a Trump 2028 hat and told a dinner crowd he was going to do it again. Steve Bannon has said Trump will get a third term, and a Republican congressman proposed an amendment that would let him run.
What to watch for
Any concrete step toward a 2028 run: a ballot filing, a court case, or movement on a constitutional amendment.
The administration's side
In August Trump said he would love to run but the law is very strong, and he has described some of his remarks as jokes.
