Fighting the Epstein vote, then ordering probes of Democrats
CriticizedLast checked Sep 30, 2026
Criticized means: Legal, or a policy choice, but widely condemned.
As House Republicans prepared to force release of the Epstein files, Trump pressed them to vote no, then ordered DOJ to investigate Epstein's ties to Bill Clinton, Larry Summers and Reid Hoffman.
What happened
Emails released that week showed Epstein discussing Trump. Bondi assigned a U.S. attorney to the new probe within hours. None of the men Trump named has been accused of abuse by Epstein's victims.
Where it stands
The House passed the Epstein Files Transparency Act anyway, and Trump signed it.
The administration's side
Trump called the matter a Democratic hoax meant to distract from the shutdown and compared it to the Russia investigation.
